Estêvão: Brazil’s Next Superstar

Sam Cooper Score 90

If there’s one nation that never stops producing football superstars, it’s Brazil. Pelé, Zico, Romário, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar; every generation has delivered a new Seleção magician. Estêvão looks next in line to join that list.

His journey began in the Cruzeiro academy, where he first picked up the “Messinho” nickname. The comparisons weren’t just about his size. He had the same low centre of gravity, sharp turns and effortless control as the little magician. Palmeiras didn’t wait long, signing a 14-year-old Estêvão in 2021 where he rapidly climbed through the ranks. At 16 years and eight months, he made his professional debut, becoming the club’s fourth-youngest player.

His first full season was the point where everything shifted. From the right wing, Estêvão scored 13 and added 9 assists, locking down a starting place and attracting interest from Europe’s biggest clubs. Real Madrid were strongly linked, but Chelsea moved first and sealed a deal for him to join on his 18th birthday.

His final Palmeiras appearance summed up the excitement around him. Facing Chelsea in the Club World Cup quarter-final, he scored with the sort of composure that made people at Stamford Bridge sit up. Palmeiras went out, but he left a lasting impression.

Since arriving in England, Estêvão has settled quickly. Those around the club say his maturity, discipline and tactical understanding have stood out from day one. Enzo Maresca has been careful with his minutes, easing him into Premier League football, but the impact has been clear. He scored his first league goal in the 2–1 win over Liverpool, another hint of what’s to come.

The November international break was his real introduction to the world stage. Starting both friendlies against Senegal and Tunisia, he scored in both. The moment that caught attention wasn’t just the goals – it was the penalty. With Matheus Cunha and Vinícius Júnior on the pitch, Estêvão stepped up and took it. It was a show of confidence from Carlo Ancelotti, and he delivered with a calm finish.

For now, the path is straightforward. Develop, grow and stay grounded. Plenty of wonderkids have flashed brightly before fading away, but Estêvão has the talent, temperament and support network to go the distance.

Brazil’s next superstar might already be here.
