October POTM – Top 5 Leagues

Sam Cooper Score 90

Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and Napoli lead their respective leagues as November approaches. These five players stood out above the rest throughout October at club level.

Erling Haaland

Manchester City scored three league goals in October; Erling Haaland was responsible for all of them. In the Champions League he scored three more, with only a Bernardo Silva effort against Villarreal breaking up the monotony of Haaland’s goalscoring exploits.

While Pep’s side have looked far from their convincing best, Haaland has continued to perform at the highest level. Without his goals, City could have found themselves in a similar slump to Liverpool.

Gabriel

Arsenal didn’t concede in October, either in the Premier League or Champions League. Six consecutive clean sheets has provided the solid foundation for Arsenal’s rise to the top of the league and unbeaten start in Europe.

Any of Arsenal’s defensive unit could make a case for a place in the October Team of the Month, but it’s Gabriel’s exploits in the opponents box that puts him in the running for Player of the Month. A goal against Atlético and two assists in the Prem capped off a perfect month for the Brazilian.

Harry Kane

Kane’s goalscoring ability has been legendary for over a decade, but October was the month he showed the strength of his all-round game.

Against Borussia Dortmund he dropped a midfield masterclass, with match-winning contributions in both boxes.

Across Bayern’s five games in October, Kane scored in all but one; netting five times across the month. Only Monchengladbach were able to keep Kane out.

Nuno Mendes

Three goals and two assists for PSG’s world-class left-back.

PSG were unbeaten throughout October, with an important away win over Barcelona in the Champions League. Mendes contributed the assist for Senny Mayulu’s opener whilst keeping Lamine Yamal quiet, for which he was awarded the MOTM.

Mendes’ best performance of the month came against Leverkusen, where he grabbed a goal and an assist in the 7-2 demolition of the German giants.

Kylian Mbappé

A blank against Juventus brought an end to his 11 game consecutive goalscoring streak, but it was still an incredible month for the best player in the world.

Real Madrid only played three league games in October, but Mbappé scored in all three victories. His opener against Barcelona in El Clásico has helped Madrid to carve out a five point lead at the top of La Liga. VAR chalked off two further goals from the Frenchman, including a stunning 25-yard volley early on.
