Team of the Week – October 31st to November 2nd

Sam Cooper Score 90

Goalkeeper: Jean Butez (Como)

Eight saves and a clean sheet for Como’s French stopper. Butez was a solid presence in goal, with a range of smart saves against long-range efforts from Scott McTominay and Matteo Politano among others.

The goalless draw against Napoli continued Como’s fine start to the season; they’ve lost just once in ten league games so far.

Defence: Konrad Laimer (Bayern)

Bayern rested Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz and still came out rampant 3-0 winners over Leverkusen.

Laimer was deployed on the right of the back four, having spent much of the earlier season covering on the left. The Austrian continues to impress with his versatility and ability to perform wherever required – contributing an assist for Nicolas Jackson’s first goal for the club.

Defence: Oscar Mingueza (Celta Vigo)

Deployed in a more advanced right wing back role, Mingueza contributed a match-winning goal and assist as Celta Vigo came out 2-1 winners away at Levante.

The Spaniard opened the scoring with a curling finish from outside the box, which Matty Ryan was powerless to keep out. Following the Levante equaliser, the lower mid-table clash looked set to end in a draw before Miguel Román volleyed home from Mingueza’s cushioned header.

Defence: Gabriel Magalhaes (Arsenal)

Another clean sheet and assist for Arsenal’s defensive rock.

Gabriel has long been in the conversation regarding best centre-back in the Premier League, but this season he has cemented his status as the number one; not only in the league but potentially the world.

He is the defender who has it all.

Defence: Alvaro Carreras (Real Madrid)

Three seasons ago, Carreras was in the Championship with Preston North End. Fast forward to Saturday, he’s scoring piledrivers for Madrid that any Galáctico would have been proud of.

Since joining Real Madrid in the summer, the young Spaniard has started every league game, cementing that left-back role.

His goal against Valencia was his first for Madrid; a good way to open your account.

Midfield: Fermín López (Barcelona)

Fresh from a hat-trick against Olympiacos and a goal in El Clásico, Fermín López added two more assists in Barcelona’s 3-1 win over Elche. The 21-year-old is thriving in the central attacking role since returning from injury.

Midfield: Ryan Gravenberch (Liverpool)

A long overdue return to winning ways for Liverpool.

When Gravenberch is fit and firing, Liverpool look at their best. Szoboszlai has been their best player this season but Gravenberch is the one who gets the system working.

Benefitted from a wicked deflection for his goal, but was comfortably the best player on the pitch throughout.

Forward: Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid)

Another brace for the Frenchman.

We’re running out of words to describe the levels set by Mbappé this season; week in, week out he is showing why he is widely regarded as the best player in the world at the moment. A trip to Anfield awaits midweek.

Forward: Erling Haaland (Manchester City)

If there is one player keeping up with Kylian Mbappé, it is Haaland.

It was fitting that City’s number nine brought back the robot celebration; his scoring feats feel beyond what should be humanly possible. Two more against Bournemouth have taken his tally to 17 in all competitions just 13 games in. City might be overreliant on his goals, but they don’t look like stopping anytime soon.

Forward: Antony (Real Betis)

Two goals and an assist in the opening forty minutes set the tone for Real Betis’ dominant win over Mallorca.

The rejuvenated Brazilian continues to deliver one of the most satisfying career revival stories.
